Abstract

"The energy used to produce electricity composes almost half of the total energy used in the United States of America. Some individual energy companies have incentive programs designed to decrease the amount of energy used by homeowners and business owners. However, it is important to identify an effective intervention to decrease energy usage across all settings in order to decrease the total energy used in America. The purpose of this study was to evaluate an intervention to decrease energy usage in residential group homes as well as in individual homes using a combination of incentives, prompts, feedback, and instructions. Incentives, prompts and feedback were found to be ineffective in decreasing the energy used with employees in residential group home setting. The daily presentation of instructions was effective in decreasing energy usage in individual homes."
